Student Leader Interview: Nick Washington

What is your name? Nick Washington

Where were you born? New Orleans

Where are your parents from? New Orleans

When was the last time you were in New Orleans? I went last year for Mardi Gras for the big parade.

What was good about your childhood? I got to see my cousin and my family. All my family is in New Orleans.

Why do you love New Orleans so much? I love it because there’s a special thing called beignets. They are like donuts but better than donuts. I might bring some back for my class to try them. The reason I love it is because all my family is there except my mom and my sister. All my family is there and the water is beautiful. The food is good. Crabs. Crawfish. The seafood is perfect. New Orleans its different. The schools are different. The stores are different. The libraries are different.

What do you want to improve in your family? I want to prove that I am strong and I am here when you need me. If an old woman needs help carrying her boxes and her back is messed up and she can’t bend down, I will help her.

What kind of music do you listen to? Tee Grizzly. Lil Yachi. Codet Black YG. Tyga. They tight and they can rap.

Why did you choose to come to Stedman? Because I moved from New Orleans to here. My mom hadn’t seen a school like this one. For high school I will go to the school where my mom works. She is a kitchen manager at Northfield. For middle school, I’m going to go to McCauliffe. My brother went there and my sister is there. I don’t know what college I’m going to. I might goto LSU because it is in New Orleans.

What are some of your favorite things you’ve done this year? I get to know some of your friends better. I get to know people in the Launch classroom better. I get to know these teachers better. This year we’re going on more field trips than last year. We went to the Dahlia Center. Ww are going to Ameritown.

Do you enjoy reading and writing? What do you like? What do you not like? I like writing but it makes my hands hurt. I like writing because it’s interesting. I get to pick what I’m writing about.
